Absolutely Limited Edition.

February 26, 2012 Leave a comment

A friend recently made a trip to Langkawi, famous not only for it’s stunning beach resorts but also it’s duty free status. ;)

She brought back a collection of miniatures, Absolut vodka, in Limited Edition packaging designed on conjunction with Borneo Ink, one of Malaysia’s most famours tattoo studios.

Unfortunately the same design is carried acooss the different vodkas, otherwise it would have created a nice set of tattoos, but interesting anyway.

Tasting notes: The grapefruit vodka was a bit harsh, with quite an aftertaste. The peach was smooth as silk and left one immediately wishing more bottles were at hand! Sadly, they weren’t, but I can definitely recommend this flavour to those who like a soft, subtle vodka.

Won’t break: Won’t die either….

June 7, 2011 Leave a comment

“If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good, and the very gentle, and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too, but there will be no special hurry.”

That’s why he’s faster than me…

After a Sunday ride that started with, er, a minor cock-up that I have promised not to reveal (Edit: but since he has Facebooked it, lol, it would have helped our early start if he had turned up with a front wheel for the bike ;) ), and a hideous 5.00am wake-up, we had a simple but pleasant ride which at least served to get some of the cobwebs blown away, and allowed me to vent freely, in early morning, things that I might otherwise have kept to myself. Time will tell whether that was wise or not. ;)

I’ve shown my new bike here before, so instead I’ll post a picture of the beauty that M. was riding. I’m sure that’s why he was faster…apart from the fact that my rear brake was rubbing for the first 10km of the ride. /D’oh!

Anyway, Black Beauty, gotta love it:

Spending time with a python…

January 26, 2011 Leave a comment

After the Xmas festivities at my in-laws, I went to visit  friend Mohan, and got the chance to play with Diggo the python that he was “baby-sitting” for a friend. I like snakes – not everyone does, by any stretch, my wife Y. for example ;) – but playing with Diggo for a couple of hours was probably the highlight of my Xmas day.

I am no Nasstasia Kinski (LOL! I’m *not* posing like that for anyone!) but here are a few pics with what proved to be a very friendly snake. Unlike some others who are less friendly.

My new ride. Masochism, indulgence..but it’s beautiful.

I spent the afternoon round at Mohan’s house. Mohan, my motorcycling brother and good

friend, but he does has the unfortunate ability to convince me to do things that may

or may not turn out to be unwise. ;)

The  first was  luring me back into Motorcycling after a 2 year layoff, by helping me purchase

The Flying Banana (my beloved Suzi SV650) which has turned out to be nothing but a good

thing, despite the costs of all the accessories, and has given me nothing but fun and good

trips.

So when he tried to get me interested in his latest ”obsession” I demurred for a while

due to my perception of the danger involved,

the fact that I haven’t ridden a cycle in over 25 years, and the intimidating cost of doing it

properly.

Not to mention the mandatory Spandex shorts, and the insistence on shaving my legs

(*Not Going To Happen*).

But after constant brainwashing, or polite persuasion depending on your position on these

things, I acceded and allowed Mohan to build me a bike to suit my needs.

He chose the components, and then sweated copiously building it to *his*

exacting requirements.

And I must say the subsequent product is a thing of beauty, gracing my apartment,

and just begging to be ridden.

So, tomorrow, he is taking me on a ”trial” ride of a mere 17km. I expect to want to die at

frequent intervals - usually known as *hills* - but as he insists, ”it is an investment in your

health.”

We shall see. ;)

The photos barely do it justice, but note the way he cunningly matched the red gear cable

to the ”swoosh” on the frame decals.

An artist and engineer at work. Thanks. I’ll say that to him now, before I curse him

as I struggle to relearn how to ride a bike.

They say you never forget - I beg to differ somewhat. ;)

Random shots: The original Paris-Dakar replica.

October 6, 2010 2 comments

My friend’s original 1986 BMW R80GS – the first real Paris-Dakar off-road replica model – which I had to ride under unfortunate circumstances recently, after the rider went a bit too far off-road and ended up with a double fracture to his leg. Not his fault, but shit happens. So I went to pick the bike up and ride it home. It proved it’s indestructible nature by being totally unharmed after the accident.

An interesting ride, with the thumping boxer twin engine and trail bike handling. Heavy, but fun to ride. Might just borrow it again for a change from my Suzuki, but definitely keeping it on-road only – it’s way too heavy to attempt trail riding!

I lost a friend today….

Henrythethirst,  - (or more correctly, David Windsor) – a gentleman that I came to know quite well, through mutual blog comments, and email exchanges, has died. I used to enjoy his rants, and his tastes in music. And some of the other subjects that we shared, and discussed. Including some rather odd theories that he chose to share…

Now he is gone, passed away peacefully (and how I hope that is true) a few days ago. I’m leaving his link in my blogroll as a reminder. All is dust…

Goodbye Henry. May the rain fall softly.

And I know he would have appreciated these lyrics:

Nick Lowe – Endless Sleep

When you’re walking in the street
Spoiling for a fight
Hoping for a miracle
And there is no miracle in sight
Cos you’re bombed out on the blues
You feel like some bad story
In yesterdays news
It makes you wanna make lay face down
On the grass so brown
Where the sun beats down
on the bakin ground
To find sweet release
In endless sleep
Endless sleep
When you’re hanging by a thread
Clutch at a straw
Ain’t got nothing left
And the world keeps shouting more more
You haven’t got an earthly
Cos your heart bust up inside
Nobody you can turn to this time
No place you can hide
Makes you want to lay face down
on the grass so brown
Where the sun beats down
on the bakin ground
To find sweet release
In endless sleep
Endless sleep
Endless sleep

The Sunday Genting Run.

May 18, 2010 Leave a comment

Last Sunday I hooked up with some buddies from the Bad Rider’s Club for the traditional run up the hill to Genting Highlands. Here are a few random shots.

God, was it ever a hot day, but with new tyres, brake hoses and sorted suspension, The Flying Banana made good progress up the twisties. :)

As usual TFB likes to drop in first at The Coffee Bean for much needed

refreshment.

Some people like to dress up the strangest bikes.

I rather fancy one of these for everyday fun. ;)

Much attention was being paid to a brace of Ducati Desmosedicis. Hey, why not? Buy one, free one, and a famous signature to boot.

I have the blood of a reptile, just underneath my skin.

I am so impure.
