After many years of commenting, and “corresponding” via blog posts, I finally met up with Huai Bin, of Sixthseal fame, at my cafe in Taman Danau Desa, ironically just across from the Huygens Asia office from which he used to work when he visited KL on projects.
I’m not going to expand upon our conversation, which could have gone on for hours except for time constraints, as we have quite a few things in common, but it was a pleasure to meet up IRL after “conversing” virtually for such a long time, and great to see him looking fit and well after his (mis)adventures
– which will be known to any who read his blog, which has always been linked from both my old blog and this new one. Any other commentary I will leave to him in his forthcoming post, but I know it won’t be the last time he visits Cafe Libre!
Well met, my friend, well met!

And he brought a delightful friend, Ginny, who unfortunately barely managed to get a word in edgeways as the two of us gabbled on! Hope we didn’t bore you to tears, Ginny!

Yesterday evening I received a phone call from Suanie, who asked me if I knew Dabido. Although I have sporadically read his blog, and it is of course completely impossible to miss the many comments that he makes on various blogs, I replied that I did not, as such “know” him.
Suanie informed me that she, he, and Lainie, were going to pop down to Cafe Libre for a bit of a relaxing evening, and did I want to join. I could hear the disbelief in her voice when I said “maybe…” which is hardly surprising as my record for attending any sort of social gathering usually consists of me not turning up. However, I have not seen Suan, who had always been a great friend of the Cafe almost since it’s inception, in quite a while, and as my social diary for that Saturday evening showed a few gaps
I decided to pop along and at least meet someone new from the blogging scene – and co-incidentally someone much closer to my age, which would be interesting
– and catch up with “the world outside my computer.”
Meeting Suan and Laine again was great, both are always interesting to talk to, and neither set off my sociophobia (which actually is now dormant, but no-one needs to know that, LOL!) and it was a pleasure to meet David (Dabido) who is such an obviously intelligent, well-read and humorous chap (send the $5 registered, please, David!)
Suanie as usual made me laugh out loud with some classic lines – all of which as usual I have forgotten, but will re-emerge from my short term memory loss at some inappropriate moment – Lainie is always thought provoking (well, she certainly provokes thoughts in David, but we’ll gloss over that
) and David himself proved excellent company. I certainly enjoyed my first evening out of the apartment in 2009 anyway, I hope the others feel the same
Certainly Yasmin is still in shock that I actually ventured out to meet people. I think she hopes this will spark a trend, although as Suan remarked on leaving, “see you in 2010″ which showed a singularly cynical lack of optimism. I shall prove you wrong, Suanie, have no fear!
To recount the conversations themselves would be to miss the spontaneity, and the range of topics discussed which always seemed to revert to one thing
, so I shan’t, and merely attach a few pictures in my role as compulsive photo archivist. OCD – who mentioned OCD?

The last few weeks have been interesting for Cafe Libre. We were used, at very short notice, for a few hours filming for a Chinese drama due to be shown on TV this year. And we get our fair share of “famous” people, who will remain nameless and picture less because they are mainly Yasmin’s friends and won’t sign my model release forms.
But we have had a few bloggers, and I have been very remiss in posting the photos taken on those occasions. That will be corrected – be afraid, be very afraid!
Anyway, as I type there is a blogging meet happening at Cafe Libre, courtesy of happy.com.my and looks like being a fun evening, with the Nintendo Wii set-up on our Plasma TV, much competitive shrieking and yelling
and the food prepared by the Cafe team.
I escaped, to finish off my “other” job at the local gym, but I am sure regular bloggers will recognise some of the bloggers that I managed to snap before I left!

A nice big TV with Astro Sports every evening – motorcycling for those of us so inclined, football for those that care about such things!
i.e. My wife – I know nothing about football!
An updated and improved menu! About time, too.
Few more things to come, so come and visit and give some support, but mainly come to enjoy a decent, relaxed atmosphere in the heart of Taman Danau Desa. See you there!
