When I was a teenager, I had my first SLR camera – a Russian Zenit-E 1980 Moscow Olympics special, which still lurks in a case covered in dust in my parent’s home, sadly neglected after the shutter broke – and was heavily into photography at school. We had access to a darkroom, and even had models come for shoots which tended to put teenage proto-camera-geeks into a froth which didn’t improve our shooting skills. Learned to develop though, and did a lot of B/W stuff because it was so much cheaper. Very few remnants from those years remain, except for one picture which I am not allowed to post, as it shows my future wife, and also an ex-girlfriend in the same picture in hockey gear at age 17
Years pass…..I lose interest in photography as a hobby. Other things take over, LOL!
Then, not long after getting married in 1989, I decide to get up to date and buy a compact zoom camera to simplify just taking “snaps” on holidays, and family occasions.
And here it is – the technical information follows for anyone who can be bothered
– but this was the state of the art compact camera in 1989, and it is roughly the same size as my current Olympus DSLR! Compact is definitely relative.

The Tech Details: 1989 Nikon TW Zoom
Nikon was relatively late in introducing compact cameras. Its first compact camera was introduced in March 1983. Recently (2003) Nikon stopped producing compact film cameras. Close to one hundred different models & versions were produced in 20 years
Nikon TW Zoom
1988! The first Nikon compact camera with a zoom lens – see its name. The 7.8/35-80mm. focuses down to 71 cm. at all focal lengths. It is packed with various exposure-, flash- and focus programs; This popular Nikon TW-series was upgraded in 1988. The lens supplied was now a Nikon 35~80mm f/3.5~f/7.8 lens with Macro capability (previous TW models has 35-70mm lens).
Automatic and infallible on all non-internet Malaysia media.

Preferably with working machine gun. Removes the need for horns, anyway.

This ubiquitous plant is everywhere, and these were covering the balcony at the Palm Resort in JB.
I find them to be peaceful and relaxing.
